Concept
International Payments
"A purchase made abroad can involve foreign-exchange banks and brokers, currency settlement and clearinghouse operators, and messaging services such as SWIFT. The customer may pay explicit foreign-transaction fees as well as hidden costs from the exchange-rate spread between the price charged and the rate obtained by the bank. These costs can reach as much as 8 percent of a transaction, adding to the fees imposed on the foreign merchant."
