Concept
Mark-recapture Estimate
Quantitative Problem Solving in Natural Resources / Reasoning with Data
"In mark-recapture, individuals are captured, marked, released, and later captured again. The proportion of marked individuals in the second sample is used to estimate the proportion of the total population marked in the first sample, producing an estimate of population size. The method depends on assumptions such as a closed population, random sampling, unaffected behavior after marking, and sufficient time for mixing."
