"Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet delivered a Khutba saying that the first thing to be done on the first day of Eid ul Adha is to pray, and after returning from the prayer to slaughter the sacrifices in the name of Allah. Whoever does so acts according to the Prophetic tradition.\n\nNarrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet used to proceed to the Musalla on the days of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha. The first thing was the prayer, after which he stood before the people while they remained seated in rows. He preached to them, advised them, and gave them orders. If he wished to send an army on an expedition or give an order, he did so before departing. Abu Said later went out with Marwan, the governor of Medina, for the Eid prayer. At the Musalla, Marwan wanted to deliver the Khutba before the prayer from a pulpit made by Kathir bin As-Salt. Abu Said objected that this changed the Prophets tradition. Marwan replied that people no longer sat to listen to the Khutba after the prayer, so he delivered it before the prayer.\n\nNarrated Abdullah bin Umar: Allahs Messenger used to offer the prayers of Eid ul Adha and Eid ul Fitr and then deliver the Khutba after the prayer.\n\nNarrated Ibn Juraij: Ata reported that Jabir bin Abdullah said the Prophet went out on the Day of Eid ul Fitr and offered the prayer before delivering the Khutba. Ibn Abbas had stated that no Adhan was pronounced for the Eid prayer during the lifetime of Allahs Messenger, and Ibn Abbas and Jabir said there was no Adhan for the prayers of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha. The Prophet stood and began with the prayer, then delivered the Khutba. Afterward he went to the women and preached to them while leaning on Bilals hand. Bilal spread his garment, and the women put alms into it. Ata said that it is incumbent upon Imams to go to the women and preach to them after the prayer and Khutba.\n\nNarrated Ibn Abbas: He offered the Eid prayer with Allahs Messenger, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and all of them offered the prayer before delivering the Khutba.\n\nNarrated Ibn Umar: Allahs Messenger, Abu Bakr, and Umar used to offer the two Eid prayers before delivering the Khutba.\n\nNarrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet offered a two-rak at prayer on the Day of Eid ul Fitr and did not pray before or after it. He then went toward the women with Bilal and ordered them to pay alms, so they began giving their earrings and necklaces in charity."
