How does stigma affect people with mental illness?
Health Education Health 100 Version 3 / The Stigma of Mental Illness
"Stigma consists of negative stereotypes about groups of people, including false beliefs that people with mental illness are dangerous, irresponsible, childlike, or able to simply get over their condition. These attitudes can cause shame, guilt, isolation, loss of self-esteem, and discrimination in housing, employment, and education. Stigma may also discourage people from seeking treatment, while accurate information and personal contact with people managing mental illness can challenge stereotypes."
