An intent to abandon might be defined as an intent never to recover objects left behind. If this is what we mean by intent, then the original owners abandoned the artifacts. On the other hand, the Charrier court defined an intent to abandon as an intent that an object left behind will be taken and owned by others. Under this definition, the original owners almost certainly did not intend to abandon the artifacts."
