Ideas in this flowchart
- A post-objection-deadline request to revise a permissive deduction is considered only under specified conditions.
- The request must be made within the normal or extended reassessment period, as applicable.
- The request must include an offsetting change in another permissive deduction, causing no change in assessed tax for the relevant year or any other year with an expired objection deadline.
- Examples where the offsetting-change exclusion may apply
- The change affects an amount reported in a subsequent year as recapture of depreciation or a terminal loss.
- A successor corporation makes the TPR to reduce resource expenditures claimed by an original or predecessor owner in a prior taxation year.
- The TPR adjustment affects amounts already deducted or reported under section 80.
- The TPR adjustment affects amounts reported on a previously filed section 85 or subsection 97(2) election.
- The relevant assets are no longer owned when the request is made.
- The request would contravene a specific provision of the ITA or the scheme of the ITA as a whole.
- The TPR concerns CCA or other permissive deductions for taxation years before an acquisition of control.
