How to actually fall asleep fast when your mind doesn't want you to. I am Ming San, a monk from a monastery high in the Tibetan mountains. I'm about to teach you a method that will feel like a light switch once you learn it. And no, it doesn't involve melatonin or taking a hot shower or reading a book before bed. Most people try to force their body to sleep while their mind is still awake. This is why you lie in bed and your thoughts keep running. Your heart feels restless and your brain refuses to shut down. But here is the truth. Your body does not decide when you sleep, your nervous system does. If your nervous system is activated, sleep is impossible. So instead of forcing sleep, you must teach the mind to let go. This is the method. Step one, slow exhale, much longer than your inhale. Inhale for four seconds exhale for eight. This tells the heart you are safe. Step two. Relax the tongue. Most people don't know this, but when the tongue is tense, the brain stays alert. Let it fall gently in your mouth. Step Three. Bring all your attention to your feet. Feel their weight feel the warmth. When the mind focuses downward, the upper brain finally shuts off with these three steps, your nervous system slows down, your thoughts stop fighting, and your body slips into sleep naturally like a switch. Simple. Gentle. Powerful.
