I taught my students to program interactive robot games. Here's how. First, I gave lessons on sequences, loops, variables, if statements, and functions, all of which they would need for their games. Each day, I'd give a short demo and then they'd complete some challenges from the worksheets I made. We use a block-based programming language so the students can learn the basics of coding without having to worry about spelling or syntax errors. I created directions for three games of varying difficulty for them to choose from and follow, but the students made changes to the game logic, added bonus features, and some even created entirely new games. After finishing their programs, the students made their interactive maps. The robots can get points and the game, change speeds, or turn depending on the inputs from their color and proximity sensors. Finally, we had an arcade day where the students got to play each other's games and give some feedback. Programming is an essential skill for the job market and helps develop logical thinking skills, which is why.
