This is Huntington's disease. This is Parkinson's disease. What's the difference? Huntington's disease is an inherited brain disorder that gradually damages nerve cells and affects movement, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually appear between the ages of 30 and 50 and worsen over time. Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that mainly affects movement due to the loss of dopamine producing brain cells. It commonly causes tremors, stiffness and slowed movements. This is multiple sclerosis. This is ALS. What's the difference? Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the protective covering of nerves in the brain and spinal cord. It can cause vision problems, numbness, weakness and difficulty with balance. ALS, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a disease that destroys the nerve cells that control voluntary muscles. It gradually leads to muscle weakness, paralysis and difficulty speaking, swallowing and breathing. This is appendicitis. This is diverticulitis. What's the difference? Appendicitis is inflammation of the appendix, a small pouch attached to the large intestine. It usually causes sudden pain in the lower right side of the abdomen and often requires emergency surgery. Diverticulitis is inflammation or infection of small pouches that form in the wall of the colon. It commonly causes pain in the lower left side of the abdomen, along with fever and digestive problems.
