This is cartilage. This is bone. What's the difference? Cartilage is a smooth, flexible, connective tissue that cushions joints and reduces friction between bones. It is softer than bone and contains no blood vessels. Bone is a hard, living tissue that supports the body, protects organs and stores minerals such as calcium. Bones also contain bone marrow where blood cells are produced. This is the spinal cord. This is the spine. What's the difference? The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that carries messages between the brain and the rest of the body. It controls movement, sensation and many reflexes. The spine, also called the vertebral column, is the series of bones that surrounds and protects the spinal cord while supporting the body's weight. This is the left lung. This is the right lung. What's the difference? The left lung has two lobes and is slightly smaller because it shares space with the heart. It helps supply oxygen to the body just like the right lung. The right lung has three lobes and is larger than the left lung. Its extra space allows it to hold slightly more air during breathing.
