What is the difference between MCP and API? So in simple words, an API is a way for two applications to talk to each other and MCP is a universal standard that lets your AI agent talk to any tool without building a custom integration every time. Now why do we need this? So when your AI agent needs to connect to tools like GitHub or Notion, with a normal API you have to write a separate custom integration for every single tool. which can be different logic, different formats. But MCP fixes this with one analogy. Think of MCP like a USB port. Before USB, every device had its own connector. But USB standardized it. Any device just plugs in. MCP does the same for AI agents. Any tool just plugs in. So the difference is simple. API is how applications talk to each other. Whereas MCP is the universal plug that lets AI agents talk to everything. Now if you want to know how to connect your agent then subscribe me to watch my next video on this.
