What if your AI agent needs to make decisions, call different tools, remember what happened, and even pause for human approval? That's where LangGraph comes in. Think of LangGraph as a way to build AI workflows as connected steps. LangGraph is an open source framework for building applications where an AI system needs to take multiple steps, make decisions, call tools, and maintain state while it works. And the name gives you a pretty good mental model. Think Lang plus Graph. The Lang part comes from the language models you're working with. And the Graph is the workflow connecting all the different steps together. For example, imagine you're building an AI order assistant. A user says, where is my order? The system might first understand the request, then route it to an order tracking step, retrieve the order status, and finally generate a response. But if the user says, cancel my order and recommend something else, the workflow becomes more interesting. You might need one step to handle the cancellation, another to retrieve product information, another to generate recommendations, and then bring everything back together. All of these connected steps form your graph.
