If I just start from scratch, here's how I become an AI engineer in 2026. I spent the past year learning this field while building my own startup to $9 million in contracted AIR. So based off of that, I break it down into five steps. First, if you haven't already, learn Python with any of these resources is the main programming language in AI. In particular, I would focus on some of these fundamentals in software engineering by building out actual coding projects from this 30 days of Python repository. Next, I would master the core concepts, including the math with three blue one brown stack quest for core statistics and Andrew Stanford lectures on ML concepts. Then start building out your first proper AI project with this playlist on YouTube. It's a full tutorial by the co founder of open AI. There's literally no better way to start now further your learning by understanding everything around AI systems, including inference evals, caching pipelines and more with these two books and diving into production tools like Langain. Finally, you're going to get your hands dirty and build out actual AI projects like a rag-app over thousands of documents, a multi-step AI agent, or a forecasting model trained on real-world data. Save this roadmap and follow for more.
