There are four levels to being a data scientist. Level one is, you know, SQL and Python and you know how to clean data and query data, all that kind of stuff. Another thing is, you know, the basics of statistical stuff, like logistic and linear regression. Level two is you understand product analytics. You understand experimentation, A/B testing. You understand the size of effects and the power of tests, all those kind of very interesting product analytics space. Level three is you understand machine learning very deeply. You understand when to use XGBoost, when to use Random Forest, when to use all the different machine learning models that are out there. And level four is you understand that most projects can be solved without machine learning and you can solve most of your problems with some pretty basic analytics.
