So, how do journalists get stories? It's funny because I would ask myself this question so many times, like, where do they find stories? And sometimes it can be a struggle when you just, like, don't have the best ideas in the world. However, I will give my three practical tips on how to find stories as a journalist. I remember someone telling me once to walk down the street and take notes of everything that could possibly be a story, whether it's the way that traffic sounds that day, whether it's the weather being terrible, whether it's a conversation you overheard on the tube, anything can be a story. You just have to have the right angle for it. So yeah, be observant, open your ears, open your eyes. Just re-tuning your brain to really think like a journalist is really helpful. Sometimes I even find myself in conversations, which is really annoying to be honest, but sometimes I find myself in conversations with friends and they'll say something and I'll be like, "That's a story." And I just think as soon as you attune your brain to thinking that everything is a story, things come to you quite naturally. Number two, start your own content. This is something that I think journalists are really clocking into you now. You can make journalism at home, in your bedroom, just sat in front of your phone. Companies are really liking social media journalism right now because they're meeting young people where they get their news. So if you're already doing that on your own accord, it will make you a lot more attractive.
