Our garden area is not like most gardens. We first surround the perimeter in grow bags which are easily movable. The variants of basil we use have a strong odor which deter many bugs. One of those variants being purple basil. We also have lined the perimeter with bird houses which attract blue birds that take care of more insects that may get past the basil odor. This is called the bird strike zone. For any larger animals, we have this fence and wire framing in place. For watering, we collect our own rainwater and connect it to a pump. This saves us a lot of money. Each garden row is equipped with hose guides that allow the hose to be moved alongside the bed and not damage any of the plants. We have shade sheets installed to cover plants when the heat is too extreme and sensors that give us humidity levels, light levels, temperature levels and moisture levels. This data allows us to understand the perfect conditions to grow certain plants in and what conditions each sustainable system needs to operate.
