Soil-less turmeric helps this ex-nibby man to save crores. Meet retired Lieutenant Commander Siri Prakash, a hydroponics pioneer from Bangalore. During lockdown, he noticed India produces 75% of the world's turmeric, but barely exports 13%. The reason? Poor quality pesticide overuse and inconsistent harvest. So, Prakash decided to change the game. After years of research, he planted Salon turmeric in grow bags using soilless hydroponics. In just one trial, he achieved world-class turmeric with higher procurement content, almost double the usual compared to traditional farming, all without chemicals and heavy metals. That one success sparked a bigger dream. In 2001, he launched Mission Turmeric, training every day farmers and 50 to 55% water, produces 99% saleable harvest and connects farmers directly to global buyers. Brilliant! What are your thoughts on his innovation? Tell us in the comments.
