Japanese farmers found a way to plant entire fields in perfect rows without placing each seedling by hand. Because the seedlings are first grown inside a long paper chain with every plant already spaced at the exact distance needed in the soil. Then the chain is fed through a machine that opens the ground, drops each seedling into place and closes the soil again in one continuous motion while the farmer simply walks forward. But the most clever part is the paper itself. As it breaks down naturally in the soil, it slowly feeds the roots and eventually disappears completely, leaving behind nothing but a perfectly planted field.
