This man grows Kashmiri saffron in Kerala on Rs 12 lakh a year and teaches others the craft. A civil engineer by profession, Kerala Shishadri escaped the 9-5 grind to Aeroponic saffron farming. People thought he was crazy trying to grow Kashmiri saffron in hot and humid Kerala weather. But Shishadri loved a good challenge and after months of research and visiting farms he built his own aerophonic setup starting with 400 kg of saffron bulbs and zero experience in farming. Saffron cultivation needs very specific conditions and Shashadri induced the same in a 225 square feet area. The temperature and humidity is controlled using a chillur and dehumidifier and special blue and red wavelength grow lights give the saffron its best chance. The best part? The setup is fully automated and remotely controlled, allowing Shishadri to run his other ventures from home. Starting with a Rs. 10 lakh investment, Shishadri has already earned back Rs. 12 lakhs in just a year. He has also taught 100 people to do the same. Would you try saffron farming?
