No electricity, no pumps, no aeration. Yes you can. Let's show you. All you will need is a container like this $5 concrete mixing tub at Lowe's or Home Depot. A piece of styrofoam insulation with holes cut in it. Some net cups and some seedlings and some hydroponic fertilizer. This method is based off the Kratke hydroponic system developed by BA Kratke from the University of Hawaii. Fill it to within a half an inch or so from the top. Make sure it's level. Mix in a hydroponic fertilizer until your parts per million is about between $7.50 and $800. I use a single part fertilizer called CNS17. Adjust pH to between $55 and 6.0. Phone board back in place. Net cups in. Seedlings in. Let's see how it's doing. So this is what they looked like when I planted them about five weeks ago. Let me show you how the system actually works. The plant roots basically were grown in a solution that was up to here. Had aeration, no water pumps or anything and as the plant roots drink It creates a humid airspace that gives them all the oxygen they need without any pumping. Let's look at the roots You can see these things are ginormous and there's no pumps or anything They're just drinking the solution and that humid airspace helps. So let's look at the plants. And these are those same seedlings five weeks later. We got bok choy.
