Did you know you can build a mini hydroponic system at home using just a plastic bottle? It's very easy. First, take a large bottle and cut out a window on the side so you can work inside. Then, get a piece of polystyrene and cut it into a circle so it fits perfectly in the bottle's opening. Mark the center of the circle and cut a hole. That hole will hold a hydroponic cup. Now, fill the cup withat moss or coconut fiber which are light and airy substrates. Plant any vegetable you like, lettuce, spinach, basil or any small leafy crop. Water the substrate thoroughly until excess water drains out removing impurities and leaving it ready for the plant. Once it's well moistened place the cup into the hole in the polystyrene. Finally, prepare a simple nutrient solution and pour it inside the bottle so it touches the bottom of the hydroponic cup. This way, the plant will absorb the nutrients directly. Place the polystyrene with the cup inside the bottle, keep it in a bright spot and that's it. You now have your own homemade hydroponic system using recycled materials.
