Your heart is aging right now. As you age, your heart muscles stiffen. It can't relax properly. It can't fill with blood the way it used to. This is the most common form of heart failure in older adults. And it starts decades before you feel anything. But a cardiologist at UT Southwestern proved that you can actually reverse it. I'm a board-certified emergency medicine physician, and this will keep you out of my ER. Dr. Benjamin Levine and his team at UT Southwestern took 53 healthy but sedentary adults between the ages of 45 and 64 and put half of them on a structured exercise program for two years. The other half did yoga and balance work. He didn't just measure their fitness. He put catheters directly into their heart to measure the stiffness. And after two years, the exercise group's hearts were measurably more elastic. Their cardiac stiffness dropped by 29%. And the other group, no change at all. He literally reversed years of cardiac aging with exercise alone. But here's the part that matters the most. When his team tried the same intervention in adults older than 65, it didn't work. The fitness improved, the arteries got a little healthier, 180 minutes, two sessions of full body strength training. The younger you start, the more reversible the damage. Your heart has a deadline. Don't miss it.
