We've upgraded our biopod which creates rubs that self-harvest themselves for us which we then feed to our chickens meaning we don't rely as heavily on store-bought chicken feed. We first fill it up with food waste, meat scraps, and coffee grounds which we get for free at coffee shops. The smell of this attracts black soldier flies which enter through these PVC pipe openings which leads to cardboard bundles where they like to lay their eggs because of all the nooks and crannies. The eggs hatch into larvae which fall into the food waste below. When the grubs are fully mature they start to climb upwards looking for soil. Because they have to hibernate in soil for 30 days to finally transform into their final fly form. So they follow the incline ramp we made and then eventually fall right into the bucket below self harvesting themselves for us. Excess moisture can now leave through this hose in the back and we now have ventilation. A byproduct that the grubs leave behind is frass which we can put into our compost. The water barriers prevent ants from climbing up and eating the food waste and grubs. Watch our long format video on YouTube to learn how to make one.
