Second option, you rebuild the site with affiliate content in whatever niche the original site covered. Google ranks you immediately because the domain's authority already exists. People make a full-time living doing this, running entire portfolios of expired domains, generating affiliate income across multiple niches simultaneously. The previous owner spent years of building SEO authority, then just walked away from it. Google spent years building that trust for someone else.
