Jidino India has 7600 km of coastline and enough offshore wind potential to power 50 million homes and has built exactly zero turbines in the sea. Ladies and gentlemen, this side is Hachin. But why did India's offshore wind plan never put a single turbine in the water? Let's break it down. Back in 2015, India launched a national offshore wind policy and surveys found 70 gigawatts of potential of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu alone. Enough to power more than 50 million homes. In 2018, the government set a hard target. 5 gigawatts by 2022 and 30 gigawatts by 2030. And 2022 came and went with not one turbine standing in Indian waters. In February 2024, the first real tender finally opened. 4GW of the Tamil Nadu coast backed by 7400 crore rupees of government money to cover developer risk. Not a single bid came in. Offshore wind needs specialized ships, deep sea foundations and enormous upfront capital. And developers simply went where the money worked. Solar and onshore wind. 10 years after the policy, India still has zero offshore turbines, while the world already has over 80 gigawatts spinning at sea. What topic should we break down next?
