How do you design a functioning drone with no prior experience building aircraft? efficiency from this particular wing shape. Beyond inspiration from human-sized aircraft, there are several design choices on Raven that were influenced by the fact that, well, it's a drone. For instance, you'll notice that the propeller isn't on Raven's nose, like you'd see on a Cessna or a Piper. It's actually located at the back of the fuselage instead. This is primarily to keep the field of view of the forward-facing camera clear, which will make piloting the drone much easier on early development flights. Finally, I needed to take all of these constraints and actually build a design around them, which I did in CAD, or computer-aided design. And just like that, I had a completed design for the first revision of Raven. Obviously, there's a lot that I glossed over here, but if you're interested in a longer and more detailed breakdown of the design, let me know in the comments, and be sure to follow for more updates.
