"The team also analyzed outcomes for patients with different EGFR mutation subtypes, “both the individual amino acid changes, of which there were a few different types, and the presence of compound mutations versus not, the presence of classical-like mutations versus PACC mutations, and looking at TP53 status,” Dr Neal said. “We did not see any predictors of longer time on treatment by any of these factors, either.”\n\nThe findings showed “a very impressive survival benefit in this series of patients,” commented Roy Herbst, MD, PhD, chief of medical oncology at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, a pioneering researcher in targeted and immunotherapies for lung cancer. The findings were from a cohort analysis without a comparison group, he cautioned.\n\n“This regimen is 1 of 2 or 3 we use up front in EGFR-mutant patients,” he said. “It has some side effects which are hopefully going to be better once people use the subcutaneous amivantamab.”\n\n“These updated data are encouraging because atypical EGFR-mutated NSCLC remains a relatively underserved group, with outcomes that have historically been less predictable with existing EGFR-directed therapies than those seen in classical EGFR exon 19 deletion or L858R disease,” Dr Schoenfeld commented."
