Quantitative Problem Solving in Natural Resources / Introduction
"The water-lily problem shows that a solver must clarify unfamiliar units, create a useful representation, and identify the geometric relationships among known and unknown quantities. Drawing a picture can reveal ambiguities and suggest a solution pathway. There may be more than one valid method as long as the interpretation is sound, the mathematics is valid, and the arithmetic is correct."
