"During a journey, the Prophet (ﷺ) told a man who was Junub and had no water to perform Tayammum with clean earth, saying that it was sufficient. Later, water was found, and the Prophet (ﷺ) gave the man a pot full of water and told him to pour it over his body. In discussions about Tayammum, Abu Musa cited the statement of Ammar and the verse instructing people to perform Tayammum with clean earth when they do not find water. Abdullah bin Mas'ud objected that people might perform Tayammum even when water was available but cold, and it was reported that Umar was not satisfied with Ammar's statement. The narrations preserve this disagreement while also reporting the Prophet's instruction that Tayammum is sufficient when water is unavailable."
