"Depression is more than a bad mood or temporary sadness and can severely disrupt work, school, family, and social activities. Symptoms may include depressed mood, loss of interest, appetite or weight changes, sleep problems, agitation or slowing, low energy, guilt, poor concentration, and recurring thoughts of death or suicide. Major depressive disorder is diagnosed when multiple symptoms persist nearly every day for at least two weeks."
