Canada has the strengths to lead in life sciences. Now will it? - The Globe and Mail / Building on Canada’s advantage
"Canada’s pharmaceutical sector ranks ninth globally, representing two per cent of global sales. It supports nearly 150,000 high-skilled jobs, contributes $25-billion to the economy and invests $3.5-billion in research and development. Aligned reviews between Health Canada, CDA-AMC and Institut national d’excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS) have already cut the time from regulatory approval to reimbursement recommendation by more than 80 per cent in two years, proof that coordinated action produces results.\n\n“As [industry association] Innovative Medicines Canada points out, peer countries like the UK are committing to doubling spending on new medicines over ten years,” Mr. Magnelli says. “Canada needs to match this ambition to stay competitive.”"
