Introduction to Soil Science / Soil Orders
"The NRCS system organizes soils into twelve major orders, each ending in “-sol.” Orders are determined by major climate factors, dominant materials, degree of weathering, or special soil-forming conditions. The system includes Gelisols, Histosols, Spodosols, Andisols, Oxisols, Vertisols, Aridisols, Ultisols, Mollisols, Alfisols, Inceptisols, and Entisols."
