Linear Functions
Quantitative Problem Solving in Natural Resources / Generalizing Relationships
"A linear function describes a response that changes by a constant amount or constant proportion as an independent variable changes. Its slope represents the rate of change, and an intercept represents the response when the independent variable is zero or when the relationship is shifted to a reference point. Linear relationships are common approximations in science and can be derived from data or proposed as part of a model."
