Association between weight/body mass index and insulin dose requirements in gestational diabetes: a retrospective cohort study | BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care / Strengths and limitations

"A key strength of this study is the use of real-world clinical data from women with GDM who have used a rapid insulin titration protocol, which acts like a homeostatic mechanism to adjust basal insulin dose to meet their requirements. This has provided a unique dataset for the analysis of insulin requirement throughout pregnancy. Data collection on a small scale permitted high-fidelity capture of serial fasting glucose measurements and insulin dose adjustments throughout pregnancy, allowing for the evaluation of gestational insulin requirements over time, something not currently possible in large routinely collected datasets in the UK."
