"We assessed two key outcome measures of insulin requirement: the initial insulin requirement and the peak insulin requirement. Initial insulin requirement was defined as the basal insulin dose (units/day) required at the time the patient first achieved sustained (three consecutive days) fasting glucose below target (<5.3 mmol/L). Peak insulin requirement was defined as the highest basal insulin dose (units/day) used at any point during pregnancy."
