Concept
Tilted Tape
Quantitative Problem Solving in Natural Resources / A Solved Problem
"In a rod-and-tape stream survey, a tape stretched across the channel should be level so that rod readings can be converted into elevations consistently. If the tape is tilted, the left and right edge-of-water elevations may differ even though the water surface is assumed to be level. The data may still be usable if the systematic error can be identified and corrected."
