"PTSD can follow violence, abuse, serious illness or death, war, severe accidents, or natural disasters. Symptoms may include nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance, irritability, anger, guilt, depression, worry, sleep problems, emotional numbness, and difficulty remembering the event. Symptoms may begin immediately or months or years later, and women are reported to be more likely than men to develop PTSD."
