Soil Maps
Introduction to Soil Science / Mapping Methods
"Soil exists mostly underground, so even extensive sampling directly observes only a small portion of the soil landscape. Soil maps therefore predict conditions at unsampled locations using scattered observations and environmental clues. Topography, climate, vegetation, parent material, and other soil-forming factors help explain and predict spatial variation."
