Transitional Horizons
Introduction to Soil Science / Soil Horizons
"Transitional horizons combine the properties of two adjacent horizons and are identified with two capital letters such as AB or BA, with the first letter representing the dominant process. Notations such as E/B indicate distinct areas of each horizon rather than a smooth transition. Numbers distinguish repeated horizons or indicate layers formed from different parent materials."
