Introduction to Soil Science / Cartography and Maps
"An effective map includes the mapped data, a title, coordinates or a reference point, a scale, and a legend. Coordinates locate features, a reference point helps orient the reader, and scale explains the relationship between map distance and real-world distance. The legend decodes colors and symbols and should include units for quantitative data."
