Introduction to Soil Science / Parent Materials
"Glacial till commonly contains mixed loamy material and rock fragments, while glacial outwash is dominated by sorted sands and gravels with potentially low water and nutrient holding capacity. Alluvium occurs near rivers and may vary greatly over short distances, while lacustrine deposits are usually fine-textured, flat, and wet. Loess is fertile but highly erodible, residuum reflects the underlying bedrock, and organic accumulations can subside after drainage and decomposition."
