Sand Silt
Introduction to Soil Science / Soil Texture
"Sand is the largest fine soil particle and creates large spaces that allow rapid movement of air and water. Silt particles feel soft and flour-like, generally provide favorable plant-growth conditions, but are highly erodible and have low strength. Clay particles are the smallest, have high surface area, hold substantial water and nutrients, and can create challenges with aeration, drainage, and field operations."
