Compaction Affect
Introduction to Soil Science / Bulk Density/Idealized soil
"Compaction reduces pore space and changes the balance among air-filled pores, available water, and unavailable water. High bulk density may be useful for some building purposes, but it generally restricts plant growth by limiting root penetration, aeration, and water movement. Management practices therefore need to avoid compaction when plant production is the goal."
