Four Types
Introduction to Soil Science / Introduction to Colloids
"The four main soil colloid categories are crystalline silicate clays or phyllosilicates, poorly crystalline silicates, oxides and hydroxides, and organic colloids. These groups differ in composition, shape, charge, water retention, nutrient retention, and environmental distribution. Together they control many of the chemical properties of soil."
