Oxides Hydroxides

Introduction to Soil Science / Poorly Crystalline Silicate, Oxide, and Organic Colloids

"Oxides and hydroxides are highly weathered minerals containing oxygen or hydroxyl groups bonded to metals, especially iron and aluminum. Iron minerals contribute yellow, brown, red, or green colors depending on their oxidation state, while aluminum hydroxides are generally colorless. These minerals usually have low nutrient retention, although iron can strongly retain phosphate."
