Gases Move
Introduction to Soil Science / Soil Aeration
"Mass flow moves gases from areas of high pressure to low pressure, while diffusion moves individual gases from high concentration to low concentration. Diffusion is much slower than mass flow and is especially slow through water. Increasing soil moisture fills pores with water and greatly restricts the movement of oxygen and other gases."
