Water Potential
Introduction to Soil Science / Soil Water
"Water potential measures the ability of water to do work and indirectly indicates how available it is to plants. It includes matric potential from attraction to soil particles, osmotic potential from dissolved salts, pressure potential, and gravitational potential. Water moves from areas of higher water potential toward areas of lower water potential until equilibrium is reached."
